PlanetWatch is a network of sensors and people. In fact, people come first, as it is their trust that raises global awareness of our mission, enables device operations and the creation of valuable PlanetWatch datasets.
In the last 12 months, tens of thousands of people have expressed their commitment to PlanetWatch by buying a license with the purpose of connecting a device to our network. Yet, due to past hardware shortages on the market, as of today, a significant fraction of license holders have not been able to get a suitable device and activate it.
Some of you felt that holding a PlanetWatch license with no sensor was pointless, so you requested refunds for your unused licenses, which we have been honoring (although with some inevitable delays).
However, that is about to change. From now on, licenses will have utility even before they are connected to a device!
In a month’s time, around mid-November, we will launch the new PlanetWatch Loyalty Program and Cohort System. Membership is available for all PlanetWatch license holders – both with already active licenses (meaning that the license has been associated with a device) and inactive ones.
Once you opt in via the new MyLicenses section on our Explorer, licenses qualify as cohort membership cards. In fact, the MyLicenses section is already live on the Explorer and for each of your licenses you can already check for which cohorts you will be eligible. Membership will unlock a wide range of benefits – to be enriched over time – related to the license type and the date when the license was originally bought.
Some of the cohort perks will be embodied in NFTs, which will be tradable on partner marketplaces – to be revealed soon.
Moreover, as already anticipated, a large stock of PlanetWatch-compliant devices is now available and a trusted vendor partner, TEA Group, is ready to sell them to our community. TEA Group has committed to offering multiple payment options (including Planets) and the possibility to spread payments over time to make devices even more affordable.
So, let’s talk about cohorts…
Those who have been with PlanetWatch for a long time might recall that early adopters, i.e. those who had bought a device from PlanetWatch by April 14, 2021, were automatically enrolled in the PlanetWatch Early Bird Cohort. So far, they have received the following special benefits from PlanetWatch:
The new system introduces four cohorts. The cohort you are eligible to join is contingent on the time period (Age) in which you bought your license*:
*All license types are eligible for this program, including Type 4.
Each cohort membership will grant you a NFT cohort badge.
But there’s more… Along with your cohort badge, you will receive discounts, merchandise, and additional advantages. The status of the license – active or inactive – also plays a role in determining the set of perks awarded.
For now, we will reveal the cohort perks for Type 1 and Type 2 Old and Middle Age inactive licenses (i.e. those previously on the 2021 and 2022 waiting lists). As for Type 3 and Type 4, full details will be communicated a few weeks after the official launch of the program in November.
Special perks for Prehistoric Age and New Age, as well as for holders of currently active licenses, will be added over time.
All digital perks will be embodied in NFTs, giving you a choice between redeeming and using them for yourself or trading them on external marketplaces – more information will be disclosed soon.
In order to allow you to leverage the full potential of this Loyalty Program, and since perks can be accumulated (and sold) if you hold multiple qualifying licenses, we have decided to remove the 5-license limit introduced earlier this year, and replace it with a limit of 100 licenses per each type.
Please remember that you are required to complete the KYC process in order to send data streams to PlanetWatch and earn Planets.
Due to the complexity of handling every feature of this new Loyalty Program, all devices qualifying for special cohort-related discounts will be sold by TEA Group worldwide (country restrictions may apply).
TEA Group has proven to be a very reliable partner for PlanetWatch. They have implemented our new data security standards, requiring that data streams are sent directly from the device to PlanetWatch. In addition, in some cases, they have agreed to adjust device prices with respect to previously announced ones.
Furthermore, TEA Group has expressed to us that they are thrilled to bring this partnership to the next level and feel proud of having been chosen as the single vendor partner for our Loyalty Program. They look forward to doing their best to serve the PlanetWatch community, including by offering a diversified range of payment options (Planets, etc.) and, under some circumstances, the possibility to pay in installments.

This cohort program is not designed to be static, which means we aim to bring you extra value over time – in the shape of cool collectibles, tailored discounts, new merchandise, early access to new devices, participation in PlanetWatch All-Hands meetings, etc.
Below are outlined the initial perks for all Type 1 and Type 2 inactive licenses belonging to the Old Age and Middle Age cohorts – this is all in addition to NFT membership badges.

PlanetWatchers joining the Old Age cohort with a Type 1 license which is currently inactive are entitled to:

You may recall that previously, for those on the 2022 waiting list (who now qualify for the Middle Age Cohort), the price of the Airqino was 1949€. We are glad to announce that TEA Group has agreed to grant an extra discount to all PlanetWatchers belonging to this cohort so that they can buy the device at the reduced price of 1650€.
PlanetWatchers joining the Old or Middle Age Cohorts with a Type 2 license which is currently inactive are entitled to:
Holders of 100 PW:Credit tokens can use them during the redemption process of the cohort discounts to increase their chosen discount by an additional 95€.
Remember, additional perks will be announced over time for the other license types and ages (active licenses will also be considered).
As members of the Loyalty Program, PlanetWatchers can receive two different kinds of NFTs depending on the cohort they belong to:– Membership badge NFT– Membership discount NFTs
Beware that KYC is mandatory to be eligible for the Loyalty Program.
Upon receiving the membership badge NFT, you can – Hold it in your wallet (it will be displayed in “MyCollectibles” – both on the Explorer and on the App) – Trade it on a suitable marketplace in case you don’t wish to keep it
Upon receiving membership discount NFTs, you can – Redeem them on TEA Group’s e-commerce store to buy a bundle or a single device– Trade them on a suitable marketplace in case you don’t wish to use them
Keep in mind that you can boost the value of your membership discount NFT by using exactly 100 PW:Credit tokens during the redemption process of the membership discount NFT.
TEA Group has advised they will provide installment-based payment plans in some cases. More info regarding this option will be disclosed by TEA Group in due time.
All membership discount NFTs expire on 31st December 2024.
Lastly, this Loyalty Program brings a major change to how device sales are handled:– All customers previously on the waiting list will get all their benefits upheld while being now free to choose the time of purchase (subject to stock availability);– New customers will be able to directly purchase devices without being put on a waiting list (subject to stock availability).
Am I automatically enrolled in the Loyalty Program?No, you must opt in and accept a new set of Terms & Conditions.
How can I join the Loyalty Program?We will release detailed instructions prior to the official launch in a month’s time, around mid-November.
Can I join the Loyalty Program at any time?Following the official launch, you will have until 31st December 2023 to join and claim your perks. In case you wish to unsubscribe from the Loyalty Program, you have 14 days to do so, provided that you give back to PlanetWatch all the benefits you have received (membership discount NFTs and PW:Credit tokens if applicable).
Is it possible to belong to more than one cohort? Yes. You are eligible to be part of more than one cohort if:– you own different types of licenses;– you own licenses bought in different time periods = ages.
What happens if I own multiple licenses for the same Type and Age?Each owned license makes you eligible to claim one membership package. So, if you own multiple licenses for the same Type and Age you can claim multiple membership packages.
What happens to my unused license once I opt in to the Loyalty Program with it?By opting in to the Loyalty Program, your corresponding license will get activated. However, the license runtime will only start counting from the moment it is connected to a compliant sensor.
What can I do with my membership discount NFTs?You can either redeem them on TEA Group’s e-commerce store to buy a bundle/single device OR trade them on a suitable marketplace in case you don’t wish to use them. Either way, these options may enable you to extract considerable value from your license, exceeding the value of a license refund.
Can I use more than one membership discount NFT to purchase one device?No, membership discount NFTs cannot be stacked.
