Main announcements

🟢 Type 4 licenses update

We know you have been waiting for us to reopen Type 4 license sales for quite a while now and we understand the frustration you are experiencing. We are sorry it is taking longer than expected. However, we need to sort out the outstanding issues carefully in order to prevent future difficulties from arising and preserve the long-term interest of the community.
Our focus at the moment is to strengthen the network for further scaling and to lay out the ground for data sales. On this matter, please note that no startup creating a brand new product can achieve significant sales overnight! These are typically multi-year goals.
Yet, we can assure you that things are moving. In a successful company’s life there are two phases: first, you knock on potential customers’ doors and ask them to listen; second, customers’ knock on your door and ask to be served first. We are getting into the second phase, which is thrilling.

🔵 Type 2 and Type 3 news

We still cannot disclose much but we are making strong progress both on the new Type 2 device launch and on Type 3 availability for the coming months.

🟢 Emirex listing

Very soon, PLANETS will be listed on Emirex. This is an important step towards enhancing PlanetWatch’s visibility in regions where we still do not have a strong presence, since Emirex’s customer base is mostly in the Middle East.

🔵 Miami trip

Miami is becoming the new US crypto capital and Claudio will be there this week to meet with some key players in the ecosystem.
His agenda is getting busier by the day and, even though he deeply values the opportunity to address the community directly, holding the AMAs on a weekly basis is no longer feasible. From now on, AMAs with Claudio are going to take place every two weeks. The next one will be on the 2nd of March
In the meantime, updates will be published on social media whenever appropriate.

Q&A with Claudio

Are the full rewards for Awair Element coming in daily going to stay this way, or was it a temporary fix?
We are filling data gaps in the time interval where we need data which is not available so this is a temporary fix. However, we are working on a permanent solution.
Please keep in mind that after reaching the saturation point (when the daily reward budget as per page 50 in the White Paper is not sufficient to cover max daily rewards for all sensors connected to the network) and once the recycle bins gets empty (i.e. there are no extra funds to top up the max daily rewards), rewards will necessarily drop according to what is stated in the White Paper. Daily rewards will be funded by the daily reward budget being shared across all eligible sensors. Learn more about how the recycle bin works here.

When will “Sensor License Expiry Date” be updated with two free months for Awair Element as mentioned before?
We granted two free license months (not just for Awair Element) and we will hold that commitment.
As the system currently works, the two-month free license will be triggered automatically after the current license expires. Nonetheless, these are technical details that might still be fine-tuned in the future.

What is your stance on 3rd party vendors?
We have noticed that there are people/companies out there selling PlanetWatch-approved sensors for unreasonable prices.
You should know that we do not have any authorised resellers nor do we endorse such people/companies, but clearly we cannot stop them from selling devices.
Just remember that if you buy a device from a 3rd party vendor, assuming it is a genuine one, you will not be given a PlanetWatch warranty. So, in case the device is faulty, you are not covered by us.
Since we are seeing lots of strange entities selling devices, in the future, we reserve the right to blacklist people/companies if we find out they are buying sensors from us with the sole purpose of reselling them at insane prices. KYC is particularly useful here to identify suspicious activity and act accordingly.

If I have already purchased more than 5 Type 4 licenses before the new rule came out can I still use them? If not, can I transfer them to somebody else?
In case, for some reason, you are unable to use your license, you can always apply for a refund (as long as the license was never used before of course).
By default, you should not count on the possibility of transferring it to another person. We indeed mentioned a license transfer policy that is well under way, but this will only be allowed in very special cases and for good reasons. Allowing license transfers with no restrictions will open the way to abuse, especially at times when hardware availability is limited.
