Become a PlanetWatcher

MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS

To join this program, you must meet the following requirements:

All your participating devices are transmitting more than 50% of the expected daily data streams and comply with PlanetWatch’s device placement rules.

You did NOT receive a license refund on or after November 15, 2022. PlanetWatchers who did are not eligible for the Holder Program.

In case you want to use your type 1 or 2 to join the program, it must be the lead device
(page 52 of White Paper).

Starting from February 1st, 2023, the eligibility of each participating device will be checked daily - qualifying and lead status as well as the Planet balance in the staking wallet (explained further in the section below).

CHOOSING A TIER

If you are compliant with the above requirements, you can pick one of the different tiers for each participating device:  Diamond, Gold, or Silver.

These are subject to a minimum Planet balance in the staking wallet that you must assure at all times from the moment you join the program.

Balance requirements are specified in the table below:

The higher the amount of Planets staked, the bigger the bonus.

Participating devices will be entitled to a number of bonus distribution shares per day according to the table below:

STAKING YOUR PLANETS

Add/Choose a staking wallet in the MyWallet section in the Explorer

Open the HODLER program section and select the device(s)

Select a staking tier for each device

Transfer the required Planets to the selected wallet

During this process, you will learn the exact number of Planets that you will need to have on your wallet based on the selected devices and respective tiers.

ELIGIBILITY & CAMPAIGN DETAILS

Make sure you comply with the following criteria to claim your extra HODLER bonus rewards:

The number of Planets tied to the bonus rewards can vary among your different participating devices based on their staking tiers.
These extra HODLER bonus rewards will only be issued at the very end of the program - February 2025. All unclaimed bonus rewards will be burned.
The budget sustaining this campaign comes from the 200M Planets allocated to marketing and management activities as voted in PW:GOV#5.

FAQ

If you join the HODLER program with multiple devices of the same Type (as long as they are linked to the same PlanetWatch account) and subscribe them to the same tier - Diamond, Gold or Silver -, you can benefit from discounts on the PLANETS balance requirements. For each additional device of the same type and in the same tier, we grant a 1% discount to the aggregate PLANETS balance requirement, up to a maximum of 40%. For example, if 3 Type 1 devices owned by the same user all wish to achieve Diamond status, the aggregate PLANETS balance requirement on the staking wallet is 3*350,000*(100%-3%)=1,018,500 Planets ⇔ 3*350,000*97%=1,018,500 Planets.
You can upgrade or downgrade the tier of a sensor at any time. However, it will only take effect after the next eligibility check. Just be mindful of the fact that the bonus rewards are paid exactly 365 days after the day when they were earned, one day at a time. This means that, for example, if you join the HODLER program on February 1st, 2023, with a sensor in the Diamond tier and then you change it to the Gold tier on March 1st, 2023, you have to make sure that one year later you still match the Diamond PLANETS balance requirements from February 1st to March 1st, 2024, if you wish to receive those initial Diamond bonus rewards - otherwise they’ll be lost and burned. To put it simply, in order to claim your HODLER rewards in 2024, you must have the same PLANETS balance you had on that exact day in 2023 (or more).
You can use either a wallet with sensors associated with it as a staking wallet or a wallet without sensors associated with it. Alternatively, you can also create a new wallet specifically for the purpose of staking. Remember that you can only select one staking wallet per PlanetWatch account that will be for all your sensors, so you should keep all the Planets you wish to stake in the same wallet.
No, the PLANETS you have on your HODLER staking wallet are under your control and can be moved at any moment. However, to verify that all users joining the HODLER program are in compliance with the PLANETS balance requirements for the different tiers they have subscribed their sensors to, we will be performing daily checks on the PLANETS balance in the staking wallets - those not complying will lose their HODLER bonuses.
In order to be eligible to earn rewards from the HODLER program, you must ensure that the PLANETS balance in your staking wallet always matches the threshold you have committed to (depending on the number of sensors you have subscribed to the HODLER program and the corresponding tiers). We perform a check on the eligibility conditions every single day and those who fail to fulfill them are not entitled to any HODLER bonuses. So, before moving PLANETS out of your stalking wallet, we recommend that you consider either unsubscribing OR moving one or more of the sensors you have in the HODLER program to a different tier that requires a lower PLANETS threshold to be upheld. In that case, you would continue to be eligible for the remaining sensors/PLANETS staked.
If one of the sensors you have subscribed to the HODLER program goes offline for 2 days, you will not get bonus rewards on the PLANETS you have staked for that sensor until it becomes online again. However, in case you have more sensors subscribed to the HODLER program, those will still be eligible (as long as they are connected to the network, of course).
One of the key criteria for a sensor to qualify for the HODLER program is for it to transmit more than 50% of the expected daily data streams. Unfortunately, we can’t make any exceptions, so you will not get bonus rewards from the HODLER program for that sensor until the problem is solved. The same is true if we are talking about a technical constraint temporarily affecting the network.
For a sensor to qualify for the HODLER program it has to transmit more than 50% of the expected daily data streams. For this to happen, the sensor has to be linked to an active license. If you let the license of one of the sensors you have subscribed to the HODLER program run out, you will stop earning bonus rewards for that sensor. So, you should keep an eye on the expiry dates of your licenses and make sure you renew them on time. Bear in mind that you can already renew your license one month before it expires.
You should know that the bonus is distributed daily based on the previous day’s participation. This being said, it’s not something that happens immediately after you join. Depending exactly on when you have joined, it can be anywhere between 1-23 hours after. Remember that to be eligible to get that first day’s bonus, your sensor needs to have transmitted more that 50% of the expected daily data streams.
Every sensor participating in the HODLER program needs to transmit more that 50% of the expected daily data streams to be eligible (apart from complying with PlanetWatch’s device placement rules). So, you need to wait for our system to run its daily check before any bonus reward related to that new sensor is issued.
Eligibility criteria is checked every single day before the bonus are distributed. If you notice you are not getting the bonus for one or more of your sensors: - make sure the license is active and the device is streaming data without any interference; - confirm you have the required staking balance. In case everything is as it should and the situation persists, please open a support ticket and report your issue.
Make sure you have selected a staking wallet in the MyWallet section. Also, confirm that’s the correct wallet and the balance matches the required. In case everything is as it should and the situation persists, please open a support ticket and report your issue.
The bonus rewards from the HODLER program will be paid out exactly 365 days after the day when they were earned, one day at a time. For example, rewards earned on April 1st, 2023, are paid on April 1st, 2024, and so on. Eligibility requirements must still be met on the payment day, meaning if you earn a Gold Hodler bonus for your Type 2 device on May 1st, 2023, this will be paid on May 1st, 2024, only if on that day you still meet the Type 2 Gold status eligibility requirements (if you don’t, your daily reward will be lost and burned).
The daily bonus budget of one million PLANETS is meant to be split across the total number of distribution shares (subject to a limit of 38 Planets per share) and allocated to eligible devices based on the number of shares held. Any fraction of the daily bonus budget of one million Planets not being spent will be burned. For example, if the daily bonus budget of one million Planets must be split across 20,000 valid distribution shares, then 38 Planets are allocated per share. This uses 760,000 Planets, leaving an unspent amount of 240,000 Planets, which get burned.
The HODLER program will reach its saturation point when the relation between the number of sensors participating and the daily bonus budget available doesn’t allow for the maximum amount of PLANETS per share held (38 PLANETS) to be distributed. From that moment on, the number of PLANETS each share is worth will decrease by a fraction depending on every additional participation (more stakers, less rewards for each). So, the sooner you join the HODLER program, the longer you will collect the maximum amount of PLANETS per share held (given that you stick to all the requirements and remain eligible).
The reward split rule spelled in the White Paper only applies to the daily sensor stream rewards. It does not affect the bonus rewards generated by the HODLER program. These go 100% to the staker.
The voting power comes from both the global scores of the sensors you own and the PLANETS you have on your wallet(s). Therefore, the PLANETS staked for the HODLER program could result in additional voting power - depending on the volumes. Remember that 1,000 votes = 1,000,000 PLANETS.
