October 20 AMA session with PlanetWatch CEO

October 20 AMA session with PlanetWatch CEO

In this article you will find the answers that our CEO, Claudio Parrinello, gave in the AMA session on October 20.

Before answering your questions, let me first start with some announcements.

We have decided to do something very concrete to fight climate change by creating a forest of 1,000 trees (for a start) thanks to a partnership with Treedom

Treedom allows anyone to plant a tree remotely in a sustainable forest and follow the tree’s story. As soon as we launch our “Stake for the Planet” initiative, you will be able to help us grow this forest. Based on the amount of PLANETS staked and the duration, you may become the custodian of one or several PlanetWatch trees. Then, you will receive updates about your trees and when all our trees have custodians, we will, as PlanetWatch, buy more trees and grow our forest and so on.

We have an ongoing challenge in supplying a sufficient number of devices to all the people who want to join our project. We are doing our best to accommodate all requests in a timely manner.

There are a couple of new devices in the making. We are working to release two new Type 2 devices: one made by the Airqino team, the other made directly by PlanetWatch. I will tell you more about the latter in the upcoming weeks. The goal is to deliver the first batches of these new devices in the first quarter of 2022. Over time, we will also introduce significant innovations in terms of data security, which is both important for the integrity of the network and as a technological advance.

As promised, we will soon introduce a system for people who order licenses to check in which quarter they are expected to be able to buy their sensor. This should be available by the end of the month, together with, as we promised, the new App, onboarding of Kaiterra sensor and AWAIR Element.

Anyway, I think next year we will be able to significantly cut sensor waiting times, both by onboarding new sensors and by boosting the production of sensors such as Airqino.

Bitmart deposits open tomorrow and trading opens on Friday. For Emirex, the current information available to me is the end of October. I cannot promise more listings before the end of the year on centralised exchanges, but there is now a significant Algo/Planets trading pool on a DEX named Tinyman.

Here you can find PlanetWatchers’ questions to Claudio

How many sensors have now been delivered to “big companies”, how many are in pre-order for them and which companies are involved and what type of sensors do they order?

I’m not going to disclose this. One reason being that some companies are potentially competing with each other. We are managing the situation in the interest of the PlanetWatch community. Please focus on what we are achieving and refrain from conspiracy theories 🙂

I would like to know if it is possible to have one AWAIR at home and one AWAIR in the office and I would like to bring an Atmotube PRO with me. Is it possible or do I risk a ban?

Yes, it is. As we said several times, devices of the same Type must be used in different locations. However, you can have an Atmotube PRO together with another Type 4 device as long as this is occasional, so they should not stay in the same place most of the time.

Can we expect to see sensors used for gardening?

If you mean deploying in a garden, in a way which is both sensible and kind of aesthetically appealing, yes, one of the forthcoming Type 2 sensors is very suitable for gardens.

Will there be other third-party Type 4 sensors soon?

We will see. All in all, I can tell you there will be several new sensors in the game early next year.

During the last AMA I asked you about the percentage of countries covered with sensors that will be considered solid for selling AQI data. You said it would be good having city coverage reaching about 50% of the area. Are you targeting a solid coverage of a specific city/place?

Achieving a critical mass in a city is important, as I said last time, because, if you have good coverage, the data are really useful for identifying and mitigating pollution hotspots. We are thinking of innovative strategies to speed up deployment, especially where we have expressions of interest from the local government. We are working on this.

How is the progress on radon/water sensors?

We are progressing. I think we can talk more about new Types of monitoring once we deliver the White Paper 2.0. As I said, some points will be submitted to community approval via our governance system. This will happen after the new App is released, since we propose to vote through the App.

I am living in the desert, do you really want my data?

We have a two-tier pixel system for a reason. The priority is on densely populated areas, but all in all we believe it is relevant to take data anywhere. Some data are less critical, and that is why they are classified as Tier 2, some data are more urgent to gather and that is what is defined as Tier 1.

Keep watching the Planet and get ready to help us make it greener by staking your Planets!
